Ưu Đàm Chay

📍Hanoi, Vietnam

Lo and behold, Vietnam has some of the yummiest vegetarian food in the world (!) and Ưu Đàm Chay in Hanoi is proof on a plate.

This restaurant takes plant-based dining way beyond tofu, serving beautifully plated dishes rooted in Buddhist philosophy. The menu is all about balance and mindfulness with fresh local ingredients prepared in ways that celebrate Vietnamese flavours while giving them a creative spin.

Pair it with zen interiors and you’ve got a dining experience that nourishes more than just your appetite (and still kind to your wallet).

Ưu Đàm Chay proves that Hanoi’s food scene isn’t just about phở and bún chả, dig a little deeper and you’ll find one of the best plant-based dining scenes in the world ;)

It also happens to be one of Gabby’s personal favourites from her two years living in Hanoi.

In this week’s What’s Hot & What’s Not, meet Theo, CEO & Co-Founder of Velout, an app to help solo travellers connect.

As a solo traveller for almost 10 years, Theo grew up between three cultures and spent years exploring the world - chasing connection, freedom and meaning. Through her Startup, Velout, they are building a way for other solo travellers to feel safer, less lonely and more connected while travelling.

🔥 What’s Hot

Solo traveling. Honestly, it’s not just a trend or hype; it’s such a game-changer. When you head out alone, you meet people in the most real way, you see cultures up close, and you get pushed out of your comfort zone in the best possible way. It’s freedom, it’s discovery, and it’s where some of the best stories start. For me, it’s given me friendships and moments that literally shaped who I am today.

❄️ What’s Not

Being “just a tourist”. Ticking boxes, following bucket lists, rushing from sight to sight - that’s not travel anymore, that’s consuming places. It often leads to overtourism, shallow experiences, and disconnect from the people who actually live there. Real travel is about slowing down, being curious, and letting places and people surprise you.
