Kurkku Fields

Just 90 minutes from Tokyo, Kurkku Fields in Chiba blurs the line between farm, gallery and getaway.

Founded by musician and environmental advocate Takeshi Kobayashi, this 30-hectare space brings together organic farms, solar-powered dairies, art installations, and forest trails designed to inspire a slower way of seeing the world.

You can spend the day wandering through vegetable gardens, sampling fresh dairy, or sitting down to a seasonal meal made from what’s grown on-site. There’s even minimalist tiny houses and glamping area if you want to stretch your stay a little longer.

So if you’ve done the usual Japan circuit: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, try this instead and experience a slower, quieter, more thoughtful side of Japan.

In this week’s What’s Hot & What’s Not, meet Hayley, a responsible travel copywriter.

My English mom and American dad met because they both lived in Morocco, so you could say living abroad is in my blood. I grew up in California, but since the age of 18 I've had the extreme privilege of living in Europe (first Leeds, then Seville, now London). When you live somewhere so long that you start to grumble about it (like being in a ten-year relationship vs the honeymoon phase), that's when you know you've truly become a local! (I really do love you, London.) P.S. I'm now a responsible travel copywriter, which allows me to work remotely and therefore travel much slower and deeper than cramming it into my annual leave.

🔥 What’s Hot

deleting social media, returning to the same places again and again, languid train journeys, flea markets, carry on only, pen pals, hitting the local supermarkets, film cameras, asking for directions, visiting friends abroad, eating at places you stumble upon, esims, buying useful souvenirs, airport lounges, trip chaining, solo group trips

❄️ What’s Not

performative travel, ignoring what's on your doorstep, cruise ships, making fun of accents, ignoring local customs, going to places because they're "cheap", taking an Uber everywhere, packed itineraries, uncomfortable shoes, sleeping in the airport overnight, animal tourism, middle seats
