"Sustainable travel isn’t a trend; it’s the way forward. Every journey should leave the world richer than we found it.”

Nikoi Island
📍 Riau Islands, Indonesia
Website | Instagram | Google Maps
Just a short hop from Singapore, Nikoi Island is a 37-acre private paradise in Indonesia’s Riau archipelago. Two-thirds of the island is still wild, with native rainforest and coral reefs thriving thanks to ongoing restoration efforts, including a 138,500-hectare Marine Protected Area the resort helped establish.
Nikoi’s impact stretches far beyond its shores. Through its non-profit, The Island Foundation, Nikoi has supported over 3,000 children and trained 1,500 teachers. More than 200 locals are employed on fair terms, complete with in-house savings and loan programmes. They also help keep cultural traditions alive with artist residencies and local boat race sponsorships.
Nikoi proves that you don’t have to choose between comfort and impact. Travel, conservation, and community can thrive side by side and that travel can be truly regenerative.

In this week’s What’s Hot & What’s Not, meet Lili, our very own E-commerce and Operations specialist here at TRAppe!
With a big vision: to make sustainable and conscious travel the new normal, Lili is passionate about exploring the world mindfully. She has journeyed across Europe and is eager to discover more of the world’s beauty and cultures with purpose. Her mission? To inspire others to travel with intention, curiosity, and care for the planet.

🔥 What’s Hot
portugal, meeting locals, structured nomad communities, learning local norms and behaviour, helping out when being hosted, cultural immersion, slow experiences, community based tourism programs, madeira island, volunteering abroad, looking into the background of the accommodation / restaurants / experiences you're a part of.
❄️ What’s Not
only hanging out with other internationals, complaining about locals not speaking english, airbnb, lisbon, pricing out locals, only beach and partying on repeat, "9 cities in 5 days", looking down on local costumes / infrastructure, superficial "checklist" travel, filming people without their permission (+ sharing it on social media), bragging about how cheap everything is for you at a destination.
