📍 Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
Website | Instagram | Google Maps

Hidden deep in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, Lapa Rios Lodge is where wild rainforests, rare wildlife, and bold conservation collide. Set on over 1,000 acres of primary rainforest, guests can explore rich biodiversity, from rare wildlife to vibrant flora, all while supporting the lodge’s conservation initiatives.

Lapa Rios goes beyond nature, investing deeply in community and culture. Every employee comes from local communities, and guests can engage in authentic cultural experiences, from visiting a family farm in the Piro Community to learning traditional practices during the Local Medicine Tour. From rainforest treks and kayaking to snorkeling and whale watching, every adventure is community-led

Here, tourism protects more than biodiversity, it uplifts communities, celebrates Costa Rica’s heritage, and keeps one of the planet’s richest ecosystems alive for generations to come.

Share your favourite hidden gem with us! We’d love to hear about those off-the-beaten-path spots that made your travels unforgettable.

In this week’s What’s Hot & What’s Not, meet Champi — a Mexico-born travel advisor and content creator passionate about mindful journeys that blend culture, nature, and sustainability.

Based in Mexico, Champi specialises in designing soulful trips across the country and beyond, while creating content that inspires intentional living and meaningful connections. When not curating experiences or crafting stories, you’ll find Champi capturing the world through photography, exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations, or sharing tips for traveling with purpose.

🔥 What’s Hot

I believe the most beautiful way to travel today is by taking it one step at a time—being fully immersed, choosing a slower and more authentic approach when visiting destinations. It’s about seeking local experiences, being intentional with where your money goes, and making sure it benefits the people and communities you visit. I also strongly believe in exploring your own country, region, or even your hometown—there’s often so much richness and beauty right in front of us that we overlook and experiences that can be as enriching as going to faraway places.

I recently took a kayaking tour right next to where I live, and had forgotten how wonderful these experiences right at our doorstep, can be. Be ready to experiencing everything as openly as you would going somewhere beyond where you live, it might surprise you.

❄️ What’s Not

Overhyped, rushed travel that’s all about checking off a bucket list instead of truly connecting with a place, with the people, with the landscape. The “do it all in 48 hours” mindset or trips that only prioritize Instagrammable moments feel outdated—I truly feel that travel deserves more presence and depth. What’s really “not it” anymore is mass, cookie-cutter tourism that doesn’t consider culture, sustainability, or the long-term impact on communities and the environment. As travelers we have to be more conscious of our impacts and find ways to minimize the negative consequences.
