Over the weekend, I attended the Better World Workshop hosted by a friend, Audrey, a sustainability consultant (Read her TRAppe feature here).
It’s an experiential workshop inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals,
where you’re given time and money cards to run projects and see how your decisions shape a make-believe world across the economy, society and the environment.
I genuinely can’t remember the last time I had this much fun playing a card game
with strangers 😍 Highly recommend looking up this workshop in your city!
It gives me so much hope knowing that so many others are also trying to make better choices for people, the planet and everything in between 😌

🚆 Polar express: Starting this summer, ride one of Europe’s longest train journeys between Finland and Sweden.
🎧 Sound bites: Instead of taking photos on your trips, what if you recorded sounds instead? They can capture a place in a way images never quite can.
🙈 Lie so well: Would you be angry if you found out your delicious meal was vegan? This UK pub has been causing quite the uproar.
💼 For job seekers: Yes to Sustainability is looking for a fully remote, part time Communications Coordinator to help spread the word about their initiative.

Your Friend In Reykjavik
📍Reykjavik, Iceland
Website | Instagram | Google Map

Seeing Reykjavík through a friend changes how you experience the city. Your Friend in Reykjavík is that friend you’re looking for.
From walking tours covering Viking history, food and folklore to a cat walk dedicated entirely to Iceland’s feline residents, every experience is unmistakably Icelandic. Designed to feel like exploring with a local friend, each one is led by Icelanders sharing their own stories, culture and everyday life in a way that feels personal, warm and far from generic.
What makes it even more special is how much thought goes into the experience itself. Tours are built around independent cafés, family run restaurants and small local businesses across Reykjavík, so it is not just about what you see, but who you support along the way.
Beyond Reykjavík, the same local approach extends across Iceland’s most dramatic landscapes, from private driving tours to fully customisable multi day itineraries.
The story begins with Valur, once a musician in one of Iceland’s most well known bands. After stepping away from music, he began showing friends around Iceland. What started in 2014 has since grown into an award winning travel agency, but the idea remains the same: showing Iceland through the eyes of the people who call it home.
At the end of each experience, guests receive a Vegvísir, the Viking compass, a small token said to guide you through storms and a reminder that no matter where you are in the world, you will always have a friend in Reykjavík.

In this week’s What’s Hot & What’s Not, meet Kayla, an ethical photographer and content creator.
Originally from Chicago, the United States, Kayla has also lived in Puerto Rico and Spain, where she is currently based. Ever since she was a child, she dreamed of traveling the world. As she began to pursue that dream, she realised how the tourism industry does not prioritise the very people and places it promotes. She now uses her photography and content creation to help ensure that the positive impact of travel stays within local communities.

🔥 What’s Hot
Wandering, slow travel, asking locals for recommendations, gatekeeping certain spots, trying to learn the local language(even just a little!), talking to strangers, learning about the history of a place, reading local news outlets.
❄️ What’s Not
Only hanging out with other travelers, only visiting big cities, over planning your itinerary, shopping/eating at global chains, bargaining with street vendors, not learning your tour guides name, going to neighborhoods locals tell you not to.
